Introduced in 2010 the Road Safety Authorities aim was to improve the safety of the roads in Ireland. In addition to the 12 EDT driving lessons it is recommended that the learner driver must choose a sponsor. A sponsor is someone who holds a full driver license and will supervise the practice of the learner driver, outside of formal EDT driving lessons.
